Descripción : Background Currently, rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament is a major problem in the world of sports, and more specifically for young professional athletes who deprive them for a minimum of 6 months of competition. The athlete has only one goal: to return to the highest level and as quickly as possible through a more efficient rehabilitation and through a powerful technological equipment. Aim To assess the effectiveness of a three-week progressive training on VertiMax in high-level athletes who have undergone a reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament. Patient and methods A pre-post intervention study was carried out within the European Center for Athletes Rehabilitation. After a ligament reconstruction, six athletes have performed a training with progressive resistance on VertiMax as a complementary device to the usual rehabilitation. Concentric and eccentric strength of knee extensors and flexors through an isokinetic dynamometer, three single-leg hop tests (Single Hop Test, Triple Hop Test and Triple Crossover Hop test) and the Anterior Cruciate Ligament-Return to Sport after Injury Scale (ACL-RSI) were assessed before and after muscular and neuromuscular work. Results The results show that the Limb Symmetry Index (LSI) of concentric strength (p=0.028), eccentric (p=0.028) and triple hop test (p=0.028) has been significantly higher, in addition to the score of the ACL-RSI scale (p = 0.046) after the intervention. There are no significant differences in the single hop test and the crossover hop test, but there is an increase in the distance covered in the majority of participants. Conclusions The idea of using the VertiMax after a reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament is reinforced to improve the physical and functional capacities of the knee and reduce fears and the risk of recurrence.
