Issue Date: 2019
Description: Introduction: Acute bronchiolitis is an infection of the lower respiratory tract that is more frequent in infants, affecting almost 30% of children under 2 years of age each year. Its treatment is mainly symptomatic and ambulatory, requiring only hospitalization in 1-2% of cases. To date, there is still no consensus regarding the role of respiratory physiotherapy in its treatment. We asked about the effect of the ambulatory environment of respiratory physiotherapy, especially on the quality of life. Objectives: This study aims to assess the influence on the quality of life of respiratory physiotherapy in children over 3 months and under 1 years using the QUALIN questionnaire. Methodology: A population of children from 3 months to 1 year with bronchiolitis will be recruited by two pediatricians from a private pediatric center in Zaragoza. Children will be randomized by blocks into two groups; an experimental group that will receive the intervention with the physiotherapeutic treatment in addition to a conventional symptomatic treatment and a control group that will maintain its conventional symptomatic treatment and will not receive intervention. The quality of life will be assessed through the QUALIN questionnaire. Expected Results: The expected results will be an improvement in the significant quality of life for the group receiving the intervention. Conclusion: We hope to demonstrate that respiratory physiotherapy has a significant influence on the quality of life of children with bronchiolitis and thus promote their use.
